Can you use all-purpose flour to create crusty pie shells, fluffy rolls and breads, chewy pizza, or delicate sugar cookies? I have found all-purpose flour, colloquially named AP flour by many a veteran baker or chef, including our late, beloved Julia Child who convinced even me that you just need to get started with baking (or cooking) using ingredients you do have available today. In fact, I have found a secret among rural bakers, AP flour can be easily transformed to copy a specialty flour product by taking an extra step or adding another dry ingredient to yield similar or better baked goods without making the extra grocery trip or special order. Here's short list of suggestions that make baking a beautiful experiment to explore!
